How to Fix Corrupt Internet Explorer 8

Internet Explorer 8 is a reliable Web browser created by Microsoft. However, it may experience stability problems or crashes because of damaged or corrupted files or incomplete registration information. Internet Explorer is an integrated part of the Windows operating system, and therefore you may need to update your operating system to resolve the problem. If updating does not resolve the problem, you may need to reset Internet Explorer to original factory settings, or uninstall and reinstall the browser.

Instructions

Install the Latest Windows Update

  • Go to the "Start" menu and "All Programs" in Vista and Windows 7. Look for "Windows Update." Click it. For XP users, go to the Microsoft Windows Update website (the link is in Resources).
  •  Click "Install Updates"; in XP, click "Express Install," and then "Install."
  •  Reboot the computer when updates have completed.
Reset Internet Explorer Browser Settings
  • Go to the Start menu. Go to "Control Panel." In Windows XP, click "Internet Options." In Vistaand Windows 7, click "Network and Sharing Center." Look in the left-hand pane, at the bottom, for a link that reads "Internet Options." Click it.
  • Click the "Advanced" tab in the dialog window that appears.
  • Click the "Reset" button under "Reset Internet Explorer Settings."
  • Read the warning. Click "Reset" in the confirmation window.
  • Restart Internet Explorer.

Uninstall Internet Explorer

  • Go to the Start menu. Go to "Control Panel."
  • Click "Add or Remove Programs" for Windows XP. In Vista, click "Programs"and"UninstaaProgram"; click "View Installed Updates" in the Tasks pane.In Windows 7, click "Programs" and "Uninstall a Program"; then click "Turn Windows Features On or Off."
  • Click "Windows Internet Explorer 8" in XP; click "Remove." In Vista, locate "Windows Internet Explorer 8" and double-click it. In the "Uninstall an Update" box, click "Yes."In Windows 7, locate "Internet Explorer 8," and clear the check in the box. At the confirmation window, click "Yes."
  • Follow the instructions in the uninstall wizard.
  • Reboot the computer.

Reinstall Internet Explorer

  •    Go to the "Microsoft: Internet Explorer 8" link in Resources.
  •    Click the "Download Now" link.
  •    Follow the Internet Explorer 8 Install Wizard instructions.
  •    Reboot your computer.
